Something somewhat similar was in all the stores 10 years or so ago. Then more decorative and elaborate fire pits took over. I don't think the ones I'm thinking of had the weber porcelain enamel finish and were junk after a couple of years.

My neighbor gave me a small open top copper fire pit several years ago. It's been great and will last forever. He has been through at least 3 since then that looked cool to start with but weren't copper. Makes me wonder if there would be anything wrong with a real copper kettle.

Yea I have read that before. The bowl has a little crazing on it already from the previous owner. I put my charcoal grate from a 22" kettle in there to hold it up a little while burning. It seemed the kindling wood wasn't burning as good laying on the bottom of bowl so I added the grate to give a little air space.
