Nothing earth shattering here.

Haven't seen anyone fabricate handles for the mid-section of a 14" WSM... so here you go:

1/2" aluminum flat bar stick, 4 bends, 3 holes drilled, and voila...

It utilizes the existing screw holes for the grate straps. It wasn't terribly easy getting the screws tightened... just took a bit of patience.

Very very nice.  Could be the answer to my long standing question, "How do you get all that food off of the coal bowl without spilling EVERYTHING on the deck?".

Lets just say I have acquired a few Kettles.  Big and small.   Vintage and New...  Some say I have a problem.  I find the Kettle, buy the Kettle, USE the Kettle...No problem...

Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.

Nice look but makes it hard to install cover right?  i changed over to chest handles that fold down when not using them only bad this you can not have the wood handles which i really like.

@Easy, good idea on the chest handles.

Putting the cover on with my handle mod isn't terribly difficult, once you've done it a few times. My smoker is kept outside, so I have been storing it with the mid-section upside down... this makes it easier to get the cover on, and I believe it would be even easier if you snip the elastic bands that are on the cover (I haven't done that yet).

A few other reasons I prefer my mod... no additional holes to be drilled into the smoker; simply used the grate strap holes. The rigid handles provide a firmer grip, and it also gives me the chance to use more wood handles... making it more aesthetically pleasing...  8)

With my new project looming... Hard mount my WSM 18 to the SSP cart, can you mod up the handles for me?  I am sure that there would be some cash consideration.. :)  Just not that handy at metal works.

@jeffrackmo I'll get ahold of you later this week/weekend. I'm sure we can work something out.
