Mended a Busted Ash Ring
«

My folks have been down-sizing for about a year, so I have been acquiring some of my Dad's tools. This was grabbed a few weeks ago.
I rescued a OTG over 2 years ago for my
kettle fire pit
project.
The ash ring was in two pieces. It stayed in my boneyard until now.
I cut a very small piece of aluminum sheet, then proceeded to get busy with my "new" tool.
Using
THIS method
, I attached the ring to the kettle and converted the M code OT+ into a MT.
Will see how long this holds up.
I have said this many times ….
There are no
bad
rescues
. Having extra parts on hand is a good thing.

Did a similar repair on the same style ash catcher.
Aluminum strap drilled and tapped with 10-32 stainless flat heads.

Nice work. Pop rivets can be quite useful.
