@SteveZ you and your beer are always welcome. I think this might be the only piece that will hold a candle to your stuff though.

Thats pretty cool. Get the legs and door sandblasted and chromed and you have a brand new smoker!
Too many grills and too little time! Looking for a  BLUE GENESIS GASSER! Will pay a bounty!

On a older cooker, I like a matt finish on the steel parts.

I'm to a point, that I'm torn. She's cleaned up to a point, she's usable and looks 36 years young but not pristine. Still pretty rusty on the legs and door. I kinda like that you can tell her age. Do I take her to her former glory, or leave he legacy? She will be cooked on either way.

Told you guys I was in no hurry with this one. More pics will come though.

Question. Do you guys dilute CLR when you use it? If so, how much?

I always dilute CLR based on this:
QuotePlace the ash pan in the container and begin to fill with warm water. Once the water has submerged the pan, add in 1/2 – 1 Cup of CLR and then just let it soak...

What are you going to use the CLR for or are you now using evaporust instead? How did the door come out?

How long did it soak for? I've had nothing but success with full 24hr soaking in evaporust. It was submerged though.

What's the door made of on WSMs that age? Is the discoloration  rust or baked on grease?

About 14 gummi. I'll try longer. Door is steel. It's rust. Don't think the thing was used more than a couple times, then sat aside for a few decades.

I'd say do a longer soak and have it submerged in liquid this time.  I've seen some pretty nasty stuff come out of an evaporust bath sparkly clean.

A full soak made a huge difference. Wish I had taken a pic after the paper towel treatment.
