I worked on a stainless steel H-drive and an "aluminized" steel H-drive today.
The stainless control rod popped out as illustrated.
The steel H-drive, about 4 years old and corroded was a beeotch.
I ended up cutting it out with a 4-1/2" grinder and cut-off disk.
Carefully cut the section of rod between the stirrups.
Don't fight with one of these or you will chip your bowl as I did. (not bad but pissed me off)
Give it a quick try, if nada, then get out the die grinder or peanut grinder.
