So, as some have probably seen, a "Sequoia" popped up on CL in Kansas City yesterday. I emailed/called the seller early...and waited. Mid-afternoon I got a return call that I was second in line, and #1 was supposed to pick it up at 5pm yesterday. Little after 6pm, I get another call that #1 failed to show up, so we arranged a 5pm pickup today.

Turns out the cart (not a Sequoia) wouldn't fit in the back of my Dodge Dakota with camper shell. So I ended up just getting the kettle bowl/lid, and a couple of pretty rough condition grates.

The kettle is a Wood Dale - not sure if there is a way to determine age without the legs/triangle/wheels/ash pan? It has some rust, some paint that was accidentally swiped on the lid and bowl. Will get a better look at it tomorrow and start cleaning it up.

Anybody need a triple-amputee Wood Dale?

The cart is still available - if anyone in the KC area wants it, I can PM you his number. Should be free or really cheap - he just wants to get rid of it. Some of the wood is weathered, and some of the inside could serve as lump charcoal. But it would probably clean up pretty well - stick a metal tub in it to serve as a party cooler.

Going to Kansas City also served as an opportunity to return this kettle to it's donor.

She seemed really happy to get it back. After we left, I remembered I forgot to tell her the age, so I texted about the "B code." She texted back:

"Awesome! Then my grandpa would have purchased the year that I was born."

On the way back, I picked up my 9 bags of Stubbs from the Columbia MO Lowes.

All in all, a good day - A road trip and dinner with my lovely wife, swapped one Weber for another, got some fuel.

Also have someone coming to possibly buy the Performer  from this thread on Monday.

Early photos:

It's missing a thumbscrew and the other two are solidly rusted in. Handle has been mistreated, the lid has some scrapes where it was laid upside down and some rim rash, and rust inside and outside the bowl at the leg sockets. The three bowl vents are immobile.

I'll work on shining it up if this rain stops falling on my workshop.

Great story about the restored kettle, props to you for returning it!  Warm memories for her and great karma for you. Also, congrats on the Wood Dale, nice find!
