Tongs?

I've gone through countless sets of tongs without satisfaction. Has anyone found "that" perfect set of tongs that work so well they'd recommend them without reservation?

Yes, these. They work well, seem to last and hold up well, and have a nice loop for hanging on a BBQ hook. Nice size too.

The Turner is fine if you like this style.  I never use it.

I actually like the weber brand. They're long, not flimsy, and grip without tearing.

I like the Weber sausage tongs for all around grilling as well as the obvious use for grilling brats.  The flat side is good for getting under the meat, decent grip on the food as well.

+1 on the OXO tongs. I've had mine for 10+ years... probably longer. Love 'em.

This one from Amazon is surprisingly nice, especially given it's price.

Good length, solid and strong.   Have been using them going on 2 years now.

I have a medium length set of OXOs and a grill size Weber tongs and they are identical apart from the length and the Weber logo. But I haven't seen that style from Weber lately so I'd go with OXO. It's the scalloped edged ones that ClubChapin linked that you want. They are perfect tongs and I think they were tops in Cook's Illustrated at one time.

Now that I look at demos' link, those look similar too. I think there is some imitation going on. Whatever you do, make sure it has a real hinge instead of just a bend in the metal.

Been through a lot myself. Always come back to the cheap dollar store ones.

I like to tie a loop of leather to hang them. The slider keeps the loop on in the dishwasher.

I have the Weber Style tongs.  They are precise enough to delicately pick up and turn items and super strong at the same time.  I pick up and move my cast iron griddle with them without fear of any slippage.

@ReverendMike the weber tongs are strong but they have a lip so to speak which makes them not the best for some delicate moves.  I have a set of no name tongs with scalloped edges which are stronger than dollar store tongs and I use those for tricky tasks.  Try the weber tongs as a good baseline.

I've tried many.
Don't like the locking rings.
Don't like the "always open" style.

I finally found some at Chuck's Produce (Vancouver, WA) and love 'em.
They have the "top lock"....you just tap your hip with the top ring and they are open.
Fast and smooth.

I use the 12" version....

I have also read great reviews on the 16" oxo tongs. They keep your hands far enough from the heat. This article has some great suggestions on grill tools

Interesting.  I have the older Weber Style tongs and they are scalloped without that edge.  Been using them for years and really like them.  Looks like they are still around on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Weber-Style-6441-Professional-Grade-Chefs/dp/B000WEIIQW

100% Agree on the OXO Tongs, I got the set, because I read that it was preferred over the longer ones that you can buy separately and I love them. They don't bend at all and can grab anything including heavy cast iron pans. Also the locking is nice.

I do not like the spatula that came with the set though. It's sturdy, but has a very short handle so reaching over a high heat grill can be tough. Lucky for me I still enjoyed my old spatch.

I use the Weber Style and the long OXO Good Grips ones for food and the cheaper basic Weber ones for charcoal only. Gotta have a dedicated pair of charcoal only tongs.
