I thought I would post this thread in light of the "Custom" kettle recently found and the process of the finish used on it by Weber.

This article offers some light on the finish on these "Custom" model grills.  Marty, our former Statesmen was nice enough to offer us this article he submitted to Weber Nation that talks about this actual found on these rare grills.  It's process is called "Chromoveil"   Read below.

I think the kettle in the article is one I rescued here in Pardeeville, WI, am I right?

The grill was given to G and in turn has changed hands a couple of times. I don't even know who has it anymore.

Thanks for posting the article.
I've got Webers. 10 - WSMs, 5 - 22.5" kettles, 2 - 18.5" kettle, 2 - SJS, 2 - SJP, 4 - WGA, 1 vintage Coolie Pan

It's in good hands then (though there's something amusing about the handle guru having MLHs).  That's a neat article.
