U- Style Pan Rehab
« on: April 30, 2016, 06:48:21 AM »
Unfortunately when I acquired the Westerner it was missing the ash pan and those aren't easy to find.
I was contacted by another member @Harris who said he might have one but it would need some work , Thanks again Steve !

The donor pan was pinged up extensively

I busted out the bowling again

I rolled the ball on the inside of the pan manipulating the pan on the flat surface working out all the dents until the pan was smooth. It was quite easy and the results were fantastic . The pan is as smooth as a babies bottom

I had to drill holes in the hooks and purchase the hardware .I used a flat file to de-burr the hook where the holes were drilled so nothing would scratch the pan . I used washers to protect the area where the hook rotates also.

I used mothers metal polish to bring the pan back to life , it's the shiniest thing on the whole grill [emoji39]

That's a quality restore!
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

They hold quite well , I used wing nuts so I could keep it snug over time , I'm not sure what the originals used for hardware but I love how easy this pan goes on and off . I'm one of those who struggle with the twist on style , I'm all thumbs

THey were originally held on with a rivet.  THey are really flimsy that's why they almost always fall off.  Awesome job with the resto, I have a bunch of pans that look crumpled up tin foil.  I'll have to get my old ball out and see of I can bring them back to life.....
