« on: March 27, 2016, 04:48:58 PM »
Started with an 11 pound ham, put it on the spite and trusted it up

Used some Kingsford's, Coshell & Hickory chuncks

After 3 hours

Let it rest for 30 minutes, time to carve

Time to eat

I could have made it on my WSM but they always turn out better on the Roti. That was a bone in ham from the store, Cook's brand.

Looks great. Just needs some bananas.
Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn’t?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I’ve amassed a nice collection, but I’m missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

We do at least one ham every year for a random holiday.  They always turn out fantastic.  I also cooked a 11 pound bone-in for Easter yesterday.  I had to fight people off at the cutting board.  The skin gets soooo damn good, and its incredibly easy.  I literally just pulled it out of the wrapper and dropped it on the grill.  I'm sure it would turn out even better on a roti.

That kettle gives me an idea.....I do have an old dumpster saved black kettle sitting in the shed.  I was going to turn it into a fire pit, but that roti setup might just be what it is destined for.

Make one and you will not be disappointed. I made a twenty one pound turkey on this grill.

Make your own Weber rotisserie for $30.00
    You will need
    1 Old Weber
1 Universal rotisserie kit, home center about $30.00
1 Thermometer for the lid about $6 at the home center. You will not know your cook temperature without this.

    1. Drill 2 5/16 holes, one inch below lower kettle rim, in the center of the kettle parallel to the wheels.
    2. Run spit rod through holes, mount motor bracket on left side. Bracket will have to be shimmed out do to curvature of kettle.
Do not attach bracket without shims for this will add heat transfer to the bracket and motor.
    3. I sawed off the non-point end of the skewer rod so only a few inches protrude when in use.

The rod goes into the motor on the left side. The bushing keeps the rod from walking out the right side.
       Questions?
       Thanks,
       E

Instead of having holes for spit to go through would it be easier to have slots?  It would seem you have to load the food up over the grill.  It would seem easier to have a chicken or the meat already on the spit and lay it into the grill.

I love the idea though just trying to think how it would work best for me.  Two thumbs up!

With the holes you keep the integrity of the bowl. I do load the meat on the spit. Rod goes in hole on the right, then back into the motor on the left. Bushing slides to the right to keep the spit from walking out. Loads like an old style Weber Roti ring.

Thanks einrej, it is very clear now.  I am hunting CL now for a suitable candidate Weber.  I needed an excuse to get another one... a dedicated rotisserie.  I have never seen a ham done on a rotisserie so I am excited to try one.  Thanks again.
