On my wish list
« on: July 30, 2015, 03:33:43 PM »
There's a kitchen store in town that has these awesome looking Paella pans
31inch diameter, it would be perfect for the Ranch
But with a $200 price tag , I can't bring myself to buy it
The thing is he's had it sitting in the shop for over a year.... So every couple of months I go in and check it out and low ball him with a $50 offer.... To no avail
One day he'll say 'just take it for $50' I hope

He might lose money on the pan at $50. Ask him what he paid for it and see if he will sell it to you for cost. That's a pretty badass piece of cooking equipment, good luck!

Hogsy, is there a paella caterer near you? Maybe you can send them a nice note asking if they'd be up for cooking a paella with you and your ranch.

This is a good reminder that I need to use my paella more often. Restaurant supply houses in the US are much more reasonable than in AUS it seems. Any good recipes out there?

Yep prices are crazy out here Matt and with the falling Aussie dollar it's getting harder to justify buying O/S
I haven't got any recipes but we have an abundance of fresh seafood ready to be cooked

Finally bit the bullet and bought the pan. I got an ok deal on it and can't wait to start using it.
I might have to modify the handles so I can use it with the roti ring as a heat deflector

Hey @Hogsy, what are you thinking for the handles? Bending them up 90deg may do the trick.

Yes that would do it. The handles are 1/2 in thick ,so I've got to work out a way of bending them without damaging or warping the pan. The handles also have paint on them that I need to remove

@Hogsy  Good decision on your part  ...  none of us are getting any younger, as they say.   Buy it now, use it longer  ...  that's my philosophy.   Burn off the paint, grind a couple of 'V' notches 1/3 from the pan, bend, weld  ...  and cook Paella for the shopkeeper that finally made you a deal.                SJ

BTW that's an awesome cooking tool for the RK.
