Just got off the phone with the original owner and tomorrow I pick up the cookbook 'booklet' that came with the unit.
Very nice of them. They now have no grill at all because they will be moving and don't know how much space they will have.
Going to have to smoke 'em a nice rack!
Looks like I was right about it having been a floor model for some years. He believes that is what he bought.

Weber can't figure out my serial number on my SS Performer.  Its a ER code (96) and the serial number on the ignition panel doesn't jive for some reason.  I suppose it is very possible that my grill may have made its was across the border from Mexico.

As someone else said not all CSRs are created equal, you probably have more knowledge here then in some Reps not all but some.  One of my Performers the bowl was swapped into another cart and a newer date code was put into mine so date codes may not always jive with the cart fyi.
