I was at the store playing with the newer style ash catchers and I could not believe how difficult they were to use. Does anyone know if the old style models of the twist and drop are still available from Weber? I checked Ereplacements and they only show the 2015 models.

I agree with you.  I put a new one on my SS Performer.  It looks better, but it is a bit of a pain to get on and off.

For a while both styles were on Amazon but I can't find the old style now.

If you have a Dremel (or a variety of other cutting tools) you might be able to make it twist.

Unfortunately NO. I bought one direct from Weber about two months ago & it is the new squeeze style.

The squeeze style isn't that bad, if all your kettles had that style. IMO, the bottom matches the contours of the kettle better than the twist style. Always have to think before pulling off & putting back on with my main cookers (two squeeze / 1 twist).

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn't?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I've amassed a nice collection, but I'm missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

You can't always get what you want....but if you try sometimes you get what you need

I thought it was going to work a lot better the way they have the lip of the ash catcher ring beveled out.

Agree 100%  I usually have to tilt it over on two legs in order to take it on and off.

A poor design.  Weber should offer a fix.

I'm glad I am not alone on this one.  I had my wife come over and try to get the pot off and she was squeezing with two hands and good barely get the thing to drop.  I just don't understand how a woman or elderly person with any kind arthritis could manage to use this.  How does this get through a test group with good results.  Maybe its just me but what exactly was wrong with the old one?

MrHoss

Guess I am the one alone here guys. 49 here and not a body builder.........and I figured the thing out. Had the new ash catchers on 2 Kettles now gone but I could remove them with one hand. I didn't like it as it had a couple extra holes lower on the ring that were larger than the ones on the old rings.......so larger coals could potentially squirt out. Long odds but I cook on wood decks often and have seen stray coals pop out of OTG's a few times.
"Why do you have so many bbq's?"....."I just like lookin' at em' sometimes....and I have enough purses and shoes"

I like the new style. Yes, you can grab it "wrong" and it will be harder to squeeze. It has to be squeezed kind of in the middle of the handle. But I find the "stab and squeeze" easier than "guess and twist".

Much more difficult after having a few "BBQ Timers." As in "finished that one, time to turn the burgers."

weldboy

+1 on the new style, much quicker then the old style to get on and off IMO
