Dales Seasoning
« on: November 09, 2015, 05:29:54 PM »
Has anyone here tried it? I have read some love it and some hate it. It's too salty. It's awesome. I also read to use sparingly and a quick marinade, not over night.

I normally don't like a steak in a marinade but I was thinking of trying it on some chicken. I'm trying to find new flavors as my normal routine is getting boring.

Here's the link to the marinade

I tried it years ago.  You can put me in the way too salty camp.  Put it on a steak to marinade for about 10 mins was all, and it ruined the piece of meat.  Wasn't a fan.

I've heard great things about Moores Marinade but it looks too much like the Dales.  Can't bring myself to try it.

Dale's is definitely on the salty side. Their is a low sodium Dale's available, but it doesn't seem to be anything like the original product. Moore's is better in my opinion, but I would not marinate with either for long or overnight periods. They seem to be better when used as a quick soak/marinade. If I were using it on poultry I would just give it a quick dip in the stuff before cooking.

I have used Moore's...Dale's is too salty for me, but what i like best is any store brand version of this. They tend to be more mild. About an hour for a steak, half hour for chicken or pork.

I use it in burgers and a little goes a long way.  It is a necessary ingredient for Neil's Nuts....

I like it as is for a change of pace.   Definitely wouldn't use it all the time though.

I like Moore's much better.  It is very similar to Dale's but has a lot less salt, so you can combine it with a rub.  I like to put Moore's marinade (one TBS per side) on steak with a light coating of McCormick's Montreal Steak Seasoning.  Tastes great!

I should add I grew up in Alabama, where both Dale's and Moore's are from, and they have been kept in my pantry for over 30 years, so I'm pretty familiar with em.

Allegro seasoning is similar and doesn't seem to be overly salty. Can't say that I've tried Dale's, and I don't think I've even seen Moore's. I'll have to keep an open eye for that one.

I agree about the saltiness.  I tried it, a long time ago, and did not like it.  Now, when I marinate beef I use Lea & Perrins.
