I'm wanting to get a vortex but unsure what size to get for my 22.  I know both the small and medium will fit but are there any advantages or disadvantages to having either size in the 22?

I am in the same boat. considering investing but not sure what the size.

If you want to use your vortex as a barrier for slow and low snake cooking, I'd suggest the medium.  I only have a medium, so I can't speak about a small one.   I'm sure someone here has both and can give you the pros and cons of each.

Get the medium. perfect for using on a 22" kettle.

I went with a small because I wanted to use it on my BGE as well.  I've only used it to cook wings on the kettle so far, but I felt the small was a good size.

I have both. The medium is definitely too big to use in an 18" kettle (I found out the hard way when I brought my medium vortex and my 18" OTG to a tailgate to do some wings). The narrow end of the small is about 6.5" across and the narrow end of the medium is about 8" across. It doesn't seem like that big of a difference but that little bit of extra space really gives more room in the smaller kettle.

If you are sure you will only use it on a 22" then I would say go medium, but a small also works really well. If you want the flexibility to use it on a smaller kettle in the future I would definitely go with a small.

Wanted to bump this up.  I just got a 22" Performer and wanted to add a Vortex to the toolbox but was conflicted on the size.  Small or medium.  Anymore input for the people who use theirs regularly?

Would the small work in an 18? If so it sounds like that it the more versatile route.
