Water smoker question
« on: October 14, 2015, 12:41:51 AM »
What was the first water smoker on the market? Not that it matters as we all know the WSM is the best product on the market but I was just curious?
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

I had a Coleman right about the same time the WSM came out.

The first ones I recall would be the Brinkman " Smoke and Grill " and the Meco water pan smoker. I know both companies have been around along time but I'm not sure when they released the smokers .i would guess the 80s

I don't know much about history, but Brinkmann's website says they have been in business for just over 30 years (1985ish), while weber introduced the model 1880 and model 2880 in 1981. The meco brand began producing grills in 1969 (onefire grills). in the late 1900s adopted Aussie grills. So no specific date on the smoker I can find.

@Hogsy   The oldest I know of is the Kingfisher Kooker.  They have been continually produced since 1938.  They are not a bullet type smoker but most models had a "water jacket" to keep the food moist.  I have not used one but they get high reviews.
