Quick question about galvanized metal

Can you safely use galvanized metal in a bbq. I'm making a mini wsm and have some galvanized metal I want to make a charcoal ring out of. It's basically a wire mesh you would find at a home depot. It's probably a one time use thing. I am going camping tomorrow and this is all I have time for. I know it won't last , but could it be used without any problems.

Galvanized is chemically treated and when it heats up it will emit chemical vapors.

Some say that you can burn it off - but I'm not a subscriber to that belief.

Galvanized metal is coated in zinc. Zinc begins to break down at temps far lower than those a BBQ can reach and it's a toxic in high amounts it reacts harmfully to certain foods and basically isn't something you'd want to chance with  your food

I know a lot of guys use expanded metal for their charcoal bins in drum smokers. You can get it in sheets and use a grinder or some heavy duty snips to cut it to size and weld it together or add a few stainless bolts to it.

You don't necessarily need that, for your mini, to get really long burn times on one load of charcoal. I have done 7+ hour cooks on one load of fuel.
