Sj to Mini WSM build question
« on: March 22, 2018, 07:00:02 AM »
I searched and didn’t find what I was looking for so I apologize in advance if this has been covered.

I haven’t been able to find a 32 qt tamale pot at my local Walmart or meijer stores. Does the imusa pot on amazon work or is it hit or miss?  I’ve read that you need to check the fit when you purchase but can’t find one locally.

My other option would be to try a local restaurant supply maybe.

Where do you guys find / purchase your pot and what kind?

Thanks.

I used imusa and mine was a little snug.  I crimped the rim ever so slightly with some pliers and it fits great.  I bought mine years ago though and picked through a bunch as some were bent.

I got the imusa one too. Looked all over and eventually found one at a Spanish food market type grocery store. The lid is a little tight, but I just ran with it. The lid does stick once it's cooking, but I'd rather that than trying to crimp the lid and possibly messing it up.
I drove around with my sj lid in the car for months!

I built one from an IMUSA pot as well.  Sent you a PM, it's never used and I need to get rid of it.
Wanted: Burgundy 18"

IMUSA pot with the glass lid does not need lip modification.  Fits like a glove.

I just bought the 14" WSM so I didn't have to go thru the labor of building one. Great little cooker.
Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.

Check the threads over at the TVWB site.
IMUSA has pots made in different countries.
The same pot from one country didn't work too well but the others fit fine.
Its been so long since I built mine, I can't remember where the good ones came from.
Of course anything currently available may not work at all.

I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..

something like this?

Just like that.  I've built 3 with the glass lid and they all fit.  I just tossed the glass lids.

I wanted to tinker with a small project but Neil kept me from it. He made me a good deal on his already made version of the pot and is sending it to me. Can’t wait to try it out. First cook will be pork butt hawgheaven style.

Thanks Neil!

Hey, I understand the tinkering thing! Been doing that all my life... I just got lazy and bought the pre-made one. I hope it works out for you!!!!

I used this one from Academy Sports.  It is 36 quarts, so you get some extra height vs. the typical 32qt tamale pots.
