top air flow on kettle

what is the best way to free it up as it is stuck 1/2 open?

If it's recently seized up you may be able to free it up with a couple blasts of compressed air. Otherwise I typically use hot water and a grease cutting dish soap like Dawn.

if old & locked in, try small amount of cooking oil (while its hot.)

Soaking in dishsoap overnight will help cut grease. let soak and then hit some hot water and a scrub brush and it will loosen.

well guys, tapped it with a hammer, used some dawn tapped it around, used more dawn and let it sit for a couple hours and hosed it off. works like new now. another big thanks to all.
