Has anyone ever tried this technique for pizza?

Came across this blog article http://grilling24x7.com/stone.shtml.  He put a char basket up on the cooking grate next to the stone.  Seems like a good way to get some direct heat next to the stone, like a real pizza oven, and to make sure the dome temps are hot.  Has anyone tried this before?

Good idea but you still need to lower the roof clearance to get the top of the pie cooked properly. This is the reason for raising your stone when using your kettle with out some sort of a pizza attachment...like the Kettle Pizza. Raising the stone puts the top of your pie in the heat zone.

Super idea, and I like that pizza stone.
Yeah it's a red sky Grilling stone. They don't sell them anymore

I'll be trying this method soon.
Me too. Maybe a couple of fire bricks under the stone to raise the pizza up into the dome?

I actually cooked a pizza today and it turned out great. Different than this set up. Pics coming tomorrow. I'll make sure to link it back to here.

Like @Nate said get the pie high in the dome.... Will be back tomorrow

I've done that quite a few times and yes, it works well.

I'd be interested to see what the bottom of his pizza looks like.  The bottom edges look a little dark to me which makes me wonder.
