Jeff

So I came across these 2 guys a couple months ago within a week of each other.
The first one (which needed a little bit of a restore) is an M code 1990 blue Smokey Joe Gold.  This is the lighter and older shade of blue.  I'll focus on this grill first with the rehab.
The second grill was found at an estate sale and was NIB.  It's an EO code 1995 green Smokey Joe gold.

Back to the little blue guy.  I got it in fair condition.  It has about 6 chips along the lip of the lid.  It also has chips on the bowl at each of the 3 leg mount holes.  I sanded all of the chipped areas down with a Dremel.  I then put engine enamel primer over the sanded areas and followed it up with black BBQ paint to keep the areas protected.  I typically do this with chipped areas as it looks better than rust and keeps it safe from the elements.
Lastly I added a new leg hardware kit, polished the top vent and cleaned up the blue paint.  Pretty simple.  Spent a few hours working on it.

The new vents came plain, without the typical script you see stamped on them.  I may polish the old ones at some point and put them on.

Old blue vs new blue.  It's more noticeable in person

All done!

New green Smokey Joe and cleaned up blue Smokey Joe

A: When you are not allowed to question it.

Love that Blue, don't think I've seen an SJ in that colour blue before
I have a couple of green SJ's which I think are the same colour although a different year, is that the older green colour?
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

Umm, Jeff - I think it is time to turn the veggies you are grilling on that green kettle on your porch.  Looks like they have been there for quite awhile...

Nice scores on the SJs!
