Picked up a SJS for 5 bucks on CL this evening. This will be my first time using and owning a SJ. I plan to clean it tomorrow and put it to use by the end of the weekend.

How do you make use of your SJ? Just a place for lighting your chimney? Hot direct cooks? Small cooks? Just looking for inspiration as I welcome one more to the family  8)

Yes I have used mine for all of that. Lately not so much. It's all about what you wanna do, and what's needed to get the job done. Capacity is key, right?

I will say that in general, most of us tend to use a larger grill than we ... sometimes need and so, the small ones might get neglected.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

I love using mine for steaks especially when it's just me and the missus
Also good for snags and burgers
I tend to setup a 2 zone cook, bank coals to one side and use the other for indirect, it's also great for cooking skewers like beef and chicken on a stick as my kids call it
One of the best mods I did was to get a cast iron grill off an old gasser, trace the cooking onto the CI grill then use and angle grinder to cut it out, that way you get great grill marks on your steaks
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

Made a mini WSM from a thrift store SJ to give to my son.  He is moving out of town for his first job post college and wanted something that would enable him to do butts, fatties etc.
