Home built ATC. Think it will work?

I built this ATC a couple years ago for my bradley smoker to run 1000 watt heating elements. I figure it should work to operate a fan too. So, I got a plug adapter to plug my AC to 12vdc adapter in to and bought a $5 6.5cfm fan. I'm going to use it on the mini. Just need a couple wire connectors to wire the fan to the ac/dc adapter. It should work, right? We'll see. ???

First off, that's awesome. I love diy solutions. What type of controller is this? An electrical heating element has wayyy different properties than charcoal. Specifically, if this is a PID controller your derivative gain should be much lower. In other words, a charcoal fire has a lot more heating inertia- the temperature will continue to climb for a bit after you cut the air source.

@pbe gummi bear  it's an Auber PId. This on http://auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3

I know what you mean about heating inertia. This is my concern. Hopefully the PID will learn. I'm testing it out right now with some pork shoulder boneless picnic ribs. So far the temp isn't varying that much. Maybe +- 3 degrees.

If it's a dynamic PID hopefully it will be OK. If the temperatures aren't running away from you then it looks like you are in the clear. I've heard great things about Auber.  Hope it works out for you!
