This thing is beyond repair, imo, but had to Rescue it. The seller didn't want to give it away so he took $5 for it. This thing looks like it been thrown from a train, used as target practice, attacked by el chupacabra...abused.

I'll clean it up and use it to store by bbq tools I have laying all over the place, a side table for the other kettles, a beverage cooler, maybe a pony keg holder, whatever.

I'm putting one together that is equally beat, except my leg sockets are more solid.  I say it can cook again!

Its a red. Save it! In twenty years, finding one like this will be the equivalent of finding a Wood Dale (metal lid handle) red in similar condition today. Reds will become rarer with time regardless of era.

We'll see what I do with it when I get it. I had my dad  inquire about it today. Saw it on CL a couple days ago and noticed it was in Hesperia, CA near where my folks live. I believe all the leg sockets nĂ©ed repaired. I'll do that and clean it up. I definately won't be cutting it up for what I want to use it for. I doubt it will be used as a cooker, but who knows. 8)

I've got one in similar shape. My intent was to get rid of it, but I've ended up using it quite a bit. Keep and use for storage, etc.  you can also use it for additional or back up grill.

It is surprisingly easy to cook on it with no airflow control. A 2 zone fire works fine with it. Who needs air control?

It is here:

so my wife saw the pix on that first post and said "OMG, they take them in ANY condition... how bad do they have to be before THEY put them on the curb??"

i don't think she completely gets it ... yet.

Hell, that thing's ready to cook.  Throw a new grate in it & light the fire.

Looks like a veteran cooker to me...she knows the drill and will draft your chimney well...

Looks like a cooker to me.

Brought home a Yellow 18 today that has 3 love marks on the lid. Sarcastically the wife and her daughter pointed these out as soon as they saw it. I said, "so what".
"Why do you have so many bbq's?"....."I just like lookin' at em' sometimes....and I have enough purses and shoes"
