Ok.... Grate news.

Thanks for the tips on getting the leg out... I sprayed it every couple of hours and gave it a slight twisting motion each time... finally it started to twist (tiny bit).  So I had my son hold down the bowl while I pulled on the leg.  It is broken down.

I broke the wheel nuts taking them off.

I had to use the dremel to cut off the ash sweep.  I have a 7444 (H style sweep).  Can it be used?

The leg sockets look good to me... but how can I help prevent future rust here?

The lid handle was bent... it bend back easily.  The worst rust can be seen here.  again I need to do something to prevent further rust.

Should I remove the vent cover when cleaning and if so...or how do I address rust prevention on the rivet after cleaning if I leave it on?

Sorry for all the questions.

I'm a function over form kind of guy, and so wouldn't remove the lid vent to make any of it look nicer. The rivet maintains a proper gap than any subsequent nut-and-bolt in my opinion. An occasional polish on the rivet should help keep it dent after it's cleaned up.

Simichrome has been recommended here for the lid vent. http://www.simichrome-polish.com

Ok... I made the 7444 ash sweeps work on the old ash bucket.

I simply used a round file to give about an 8th inch more clearance on the holes.  Seems to work ok for now... time will tell

I need to clean up the triangle before I put the legs back on.  Then wait for the thermometer and housing to get here and put that back on.

Good show, Jeep. Was the 7444 too tight without grinding it down?

It would not fit at all without grinding out the holes

So I have my new handles ordered.  New grates are due in today.  Just received word that my thermometer has shipped.

She is not getting a showroom restore.  Just a good clean up. and reassemble.  I cant wait to fire her up!

So I have a few more pieces.

So I guess this grill cost more than that bottle of rum.

Now... Do I put these or my Craycorts on the MT.
