I want to make one of these and thought I would see what ideas you guys could come up with. I am pretty sure everyone would want one. I think the warming rack is too small.

I'll be thinkin' on it.......

I could probably use 6~8  of them ~~~>  8)

Hmmm.....  yes please 1 or 2 should work.
Wanted: 18" Platinum any color will work
This is my Kettle there are many like it but this one is mine......

for a while, i was using a smokey joe cooking grate raised with three 4" lag bolts and washers.

I eventually took it apart because i needed the grate in my mini wsm, but it worked well and was really cheap ;)

Yeah Shaun, that would be super.  I have some extra grates that are not in acceptable condition.  I wonder what would happen to the exposed metal if I were to cut them down to do some prototyping.

Yeah, I used an old grate and cut it down a few years back then set it on my warming rack and it was nice, but not what I have in mind. I would rather just make a complete half grill. Weber should bring these back they would be a great seller.

I was thinking, cut my grill in half, roughly, and attach some 4 or 5 inch bolts through it to raise it and make little feet.

Wont look nice, but should get the job done.

(EDIT, like what troy did with his smaller grate, only using half a full one.)

I know Id have use for at least 2 of those!  :D Would it work using a SJ grate? Or were the originals the diameter of an 18/22 grate?  ???

I believe they were the size of a 22 and only made for the 22 model, but I think they would fit nicely on a 26'r. My warming rack is usually in the way on my 22.5 and it was made for it. I like using it on my 26'r though, but just wish it was bigger.

G

The warming rack is my favorite accessory but agree that it is small so I crafted this....

Its an 18.5" grate with the flip-up sides were removed, one end bent upwards at a 90, and 3" elevator bolts attached.  In all, it works very well and does not get hooked on the lower grate because of the large flat feet.  My only complaint is that the bolts need to be at least an inch longer.

Duke

Not bad G! It would be nice to be able to just slide a drip pan under it or be able to add that extra rack of ribs.

Thats what I am talking about G!  I think I would rather have a half circle shape,  but the potential for lid issues is greater.

Are you guys using this for an additional cooking surface or to keep things warm?

When it comes to keeping things warm, I just fire up my gasser on the lowest setting and hold stuff in there.

I have added an additional grate to my WSM for additional cooking surface.
kettles, smokers...

G

I use it for more indirect cooking surface.
