I just picked up an ER ('96) Smokey Joe for a parts project and compared to my sideways K ('88) the leg locations are different (more widely spaced), the integrated grill grate rim is more pronounced, making for a more positive landing spot for the grate AND the ash pan can be easily replaced with a different diameter (pie pans etc.)

Overall, the 1991 changes were all for the better IMO.

But I don't need two SJS's, so my K might become a light fixture or be sold.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch
