It was the wife's birthday on Monday. We went out for dinner but I really wanted to cook so today was my makeup day. Got a couple honking thick rib steaks from Costco, salted and peppered them and into the fridge on a rack for 4 hours.
I smoked the steaks on the PP Red and the MT was my grill:
I used white oak on top of coshell and oak lump. Temps were around 210f grate....after about and hour and a half:
I cooked regular and sweet potatoes over some coshell while the steaks were smoking. Just before transferring the beef I added some mesquite lump as well. Mushrooms and tomatoes preceded the steaks:
At the flip:
My wife and her daughter split one of these....the wife's piece freshly cut:
My plates:
You can just make out a thin smoke ring...tasted like it was bacon wrapped:
A couple days ago
@MacEggs got in touch pointing out a sale at Lowes up here in Canada. Ten bucks for 15.4 pound bags of Best Of The West...normal price being 16.99. I picked up 6 bags of the Oak and 4 of the Mesquite. I used both today and was impressed. I may go back and grab a few more before the sale runs out.
When my wife came home she found a new orchid and another birthday present waiting for her...a pair of pearl ear rings. I THEN told her about the charcoal. I also have a couple sweet Kettles coming soon so it is best to keep her happy for the near future.
