Haha. Way to put me on the spot.

@LightningBoldtz informed me last night (8:00pm Thursday) about this red head near me. Guy had it on CL for $40. I probably checked craigslist 20 mins before it was posted online. I hopped on it instantly. I got a reply within a half hour or so. He said he had someone who wanted him to hold it until Saturday but couldn't put a deposit on it. I told him I'd give him $50 if I could grab it today. He agreed and picked it up on my lunch break today. He said he bought it a few years back at auction (didn't tell me how much for) and had never used it. Just been sitting in his barn collecting dust.

It needs a good cleaning and a new hinged grate. No dents or serious scratches. A little rust on the rim of the lid, but not an eye sore whatsoever. All in all its in great shape. It's got the metal bowl handles and a patent on the vent. This tells me it's between 70-78, correct?

I'll post some pics once I get it cleaned up.

The wood handle on the lid is still in great shape as well. Probably doesn't need replaced... but... those handles you guys keep posting look mighty fine...

So I pulled the legs out. They're not terrible. Going to use the "how to restore the legs "article posted here. They weren't too tight. Is there a way to keep them snug when I get them polished? Bowl vents are in decent shape. Also missing a hubcap. Going to look for some replacements. Any suggestions? Bowl and lid look like they will clean up nicely. Need to stop and get the steel wool tomorrow. The only blemish is a little gash in the lid and the white paint on the wheels is pretty faded. Repaint or replace?

use a piece of 5/16 diameter fuel line to keep the wheel on until you score a cap

Nice score..you can also cut duct tape half the width and then loop the duct tape tight 3-5 times and that wouldnhold the wheel cheaply for casual movement.

Lowes and hd usually sell 3/8 axles caps in fastener section..but they are white or nickel plated...1.15-1.35 per cap...
