I picked up this beast a few weeks ago.  I've know about this ranch for approximately 3 years.  The owner (2nd owner) was not using this grill and agreed to part with it.  The grill was very dirty (about an 1/2 of crude in the bowl) but in great shape for its age.  Steel wheels, metal lid handles and small bowl tabs.  Its been a very enjoyable clean up.

To do's - 1. A thumbscrew is broken at the head.  2. The front bowl handle is missing (I do have access to a donor handle).  These items will be addressed.

Shipping was a breeze.  No crates or shrink wrapping and it was cheaper than Greyhound. :)

Beautiful.  What condition are the coal and food grates?

Both grates are in nice shape.  I gave it a mini test run yesterday.

Amazing! Always interesting to see the progression of designs. Looking forward to seeing the history of the ranch some time.

The hinged cooking grate is a replacement correct? When did the hinged cooking grate make it's first appearance?

Edit: Reason I ask is - had the chance to see the one L.B. picked up...a wood top handle model probably from the late 70's....and it had a non-hinged cooking grate. So I figured anything before that would be the same.

Harris - that is just an amazing specimen and I am SO stealing those pics for the Ranch Kettle page.

I believe its a 60's model - maybe early 70's vintage.  Definitely a RB-600 model.  Unfortunately, we don't have the exact dates that Weber moved from the flat top to the mothership, nor do we have the exact date for the metal to wood handle transition.  Maybe the metal wheels might help narrow down the dates.

Very cool!  Congrats

I believe you are both right regarding age.  I was going by 2nd and 3rd hand information.  I think late 1960's because small tabs on the bowl, 8" steel wheels.  However,
the tread is not rubber.  It is a thick plastic.  Maybe some type of transition?  The wheels are cool though.
