My Best Misteak
« on: January 18, 2015, 09:45:05 PM »
My mom comes over to my place almost every Sunday. This past Tuesday was her birthday, and today I whipped up her birthday dinner. But I messed it up. Dinner was 1" boneless ribeyes and boxed potatoes. Long story short, I overcooked the steaks by a few minutes and they came out medium well instead of medium. That being said, they were awesome! I coated them with Astro Pigs Meat-eor Shower(courtesy MartyG my secret santa). Then fired up the performer and cooked them using the reverse sear method. Since they came out medium-well vs medium, i'll need to shorten the time indirect part of the cook by a few minutes. All that being said, there were no leftovers and mom claimed it was possibly the best steak she'd ever had. Anyway, here's the pr0n....

steaks going on

resting

cross section of mine(again, over cooked by a few minutes, but there's still some pink there)

I've said it before, even the mistakes taste great when cooking over charcoal!

I gave this to my Dad 50 years ago, and he had it in his office throughout his career. I thought it was hilarious when I was 8. Now it's on my office shelf. When I retire it will go to my son. (It's a huge eraser - about 8" x 2.5")
