Your grate's probably fine as well. Build a big fire with wood preferably, burn off the crud and use your grate brush to get it clean - unless you're just looking for an excuse to get a new grate.

The cooking grate is pretty thin/rusted. The charcoal grate is probably serviceable.

Another note....the triangle is painted black....did they come like that?

Actually, yes... There were a couple years around 2011 when the triangles were painted black at the factory. The ash cans were often painted black too, but not the ash ring. Its probably factory, and if so I'd leave it be.

Correct, indeed.  My 2011 blue OTG has exactly that.
The triangle may have been swapped out from the original.

+1 on leaving it.  It looks good with a black kettle.
Q: How do you know something is bull$h!t?
A: When you are not allowed to question it.

I don't plan to change it but I had just never seen one like that before.

FWIW, you might want to measure the front leg length and just pick up some 1" aluminum tube locally.  That's what I did for a replacement front leg for my 26'er.  Cut it on a chopsaw and drill one hole for the triangle and put a cap on it from Ace.  Surprisingly cheap and your kettle won't know the difference.
