My First Kettle Shish-Kabob Cook
« on: October 27, 2014, 01:31:42 PM »
Picked up some top sirloin steaks last night with the intention of cooking them as is.  Got home and thought about my kabob idea I had never tried and how my newly acquired Weber Charcoal Baskets might help.  That was all the thought necessary so I cubed the steaks and did up 4 marinades to try out....a chimichuri, a sriracha powder/grape seed oil blend, a smoked paprika blend and a soya sauce.

Served with some focaccia and sriracha aioli:

I ran out of room on the skewers I had so this afternoon was leftovers....the meat very much liked being in the marinade overnight:

Done...due to the longer marinading time this batch was much better than last nights:

sriracha aioli

Great idea - that sounds like a winning combo.  Maybe add a touch of cumin?

I really like your use of the charcoal baskets as holders.  Looks like it worked perfectly.

Great idea.  Looks delicious.  Gotta try that.  I need to get some firebricks.  It looks like they come in handy when you want to get creative.

I use firebricks all the time.  Eventually they crack but the pieces are often more useful that the full bricks.

Look here - $4.99 each - seems pricey but this is about the same as in the States:

Thanks 1buckie :)
I like MrHoss’ idea. Here is another idea if you’re cooking for a large crowd
Place a small metal plate or small cast iron pan in the center of the kettle and line up the skewers in a circular fashion, like this

1buckie, I still owe you a picture with these skewers loaded with food :)
