wound up winning it in an estate auction, but i wasn't even after it.  this was the ugly stepsister.

here she is outshining her big sister.

there's just something about it that makes me want to put my dutch oven in her.  i've never been a big fan of 18" or black kettles but something about this one just has me excited to own her.  maybe because she could be older than me and she's in better shape?

i have no clue but i'm very excited to have her.  she'll be fired up and cooking something tomorrow.

am i going to clean her up like new?  hell naw.  i'm going to get her a new cooking grate and plop some food in her.

this thread is about me saying "never say never" or just "i was wrong".

either way i don't care, she stole my heart.
I only use kettles with lid bales.

Wow nice score Greg!! I should have bid you up on those. This is going to cost you in the long run because it sounds like you will be adding some more 18's to your collection. You really need some colors.

thanks guys!

i am in a good spot.  jdd cleaned up at the estate sales but i def scored with these two.  (no almost free speckle jobs though)  brownie has almost no wear.  no rust, couple small dents in the bowl but no real chips, lid is like new.  pretty much a time capsule pat pending job.  she was a special occasion only cooker. the 18 saw most of the use.   i haven't even given her a bath.

I love my 18. There's not a lot of space, but you can use the space it does have to cook some great food.

i think it's going to be perfect for dutch oven cooking, or the 17" pizza stone i have.  or the schlemmertopf with a roast in it.
i'm not going to be afraid to get her ripping hot either.  she's been there.

Those are both some sweet grills! I'd love to find a small bowl tabbed brown 22 some day to match my PAT PENDING brown 18.
