It might be the grate.....I've had several relatively new & old that were the grate somehow off......the supports were fine.....double check before you bend.........

Grate (pun intended) point!  I will lay the grate on a flat surface and check it out for sure.  Glad I didn't do it yet.  Bending always chips the porcelain.

"Bending always chips the porcelain."

@polishmartin

Precisely why I said something quickly !!!!

Also, another way to tell can be: Does it sit touching 3 of the 4 supports?   or 2 of 4?

That's how I've sort of figured them out before.......
"If you want it fancy there is BBQ spray paint at home depot for that. "
    Covered, damper-controlled cooking.....IF YOU PLEASE !!!
"But the ever versatile kettle reigned supreme"

Looks really nice! I just wonder about the lid vent location, I always have that where the meat is. If you put the meat in the back, where the vent is you have to reach over hot coals to flip. If you position the vent else where, seems it hard to use the slide aside? I dunno, comments?

Funny you point that out; great observation.  I had the exact same concern based on the pics, before I even got the thing.  Check out my comments from this thread, just browse down on the page, about the middle:

I'll let you know once I get some meat on her.

Welcome to the crimson club! I've got a OTG crimson! Love it!

Harleysmoker

I was just cooking wings on my 2010 performer, both charcoal baskets on the left side under the lid where it is hard to reach. So the vent is on the right, beside the table, easy to access the meat, that's what got me thinking seeing your pic's. So I spun the lid around so the handle was at the rear, not pointing to the table. It's not hard as I thought to use the slide aside, but the therm (not accurate) points at the table and can't read easy..I have a little case of OCD so I wonder about things like this too,,,,,,seems backwards to me

I love the lid bale.  I really like the position that the lid is stowed in. Have we confirmed if this bale will fit our older performers, without modification?

How can we order these?

What material are the rollers made out of?  Still something melty?

Martin thank you for sharing!

AH for 2015?  what does this say about earlier codes?  possibly the code represents the calendar year and not model year?

I only use kettles with lid bales.

SixZeroFour

Nice catch! The dampers do sometimes carry over slightly into the following year so you could be onto something about calendar year and not model year. Either that or they just use up what they had leftover until they run out :) For example I have both a weld on handle and a bolt on handle copper "AH" Lids...

Yeah, something doesn't match up with that code.  I thought all kettles were supposed to have the long "automotive style VIN" numbering system to which Weber has transitioned?   :o

Martin-
I agree with the others.  That is a beautiful set up.  Thanks for posting those pics.
Interested in ANY offset handle SJs you may have.
