Pork loins that is....   ;D

There have been some GREAT cross-country friendships made via the WKC.  An here is yet another story about a good friend passing along a little Weber treasure to another.

This past spring I was contacted by a good friend and forum member about a Weber side-table that he had come upon.   The table was described to be in "rough condition".   It was missing all of the hardware with the exception of the legs and sockets, and the table-top was badly grease-stained.   At first I didn't even want it, but he convinced me by shipping it for next to nothing.

Here is what it looked like when it showed up.   It's tough to see in this picture that the wooden table itself was intact, but the wood was badly grease stained.  I wasn't sure that it would even accept finish.   There were also a couple of spots where the veneer was lifting from the understructure of the wood.

The first step was to shoot some glue under the loose spots of veneer, and clamp them to keep anything from getting damaged.  After that, the grease needed to be addressed.   Setting the table on the workbench, I took a large chunk of paper-towel in one hand, and a can of lacquer thinner in the other.   Dumping the thinner directly on the wood, and quickly whipping it up, brought the grease up nicely.  After about 5 rounds of this, the table appeared to be cleaned.  A quick sanding, followed by 3 coats of spar-varnish brought the table top back to life.

The next project was to weld up a close replica of the bracket to hold the table to a kettle.

Ugly welds...

Finally, here it is ready for it's first cook:

It's still missing the towel ring and tool holder, but at least now it's a functional table, and another Weber accessory has been saved.

Thanks friend!   ;)
Interested in ANY offset handle SJs you may have.
