Need a quick history lesson
« on: August 07, 2014, 05:49:10 PM »
Can anyone tell me what year they switched from the small tab top vent to the large tab?  Did the last years of the MBH have the large tab style?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a B code MBH and the top vent has the raised Weber and a large tab.

I think.
I've got Webers. 10 - WSMs, 5 - 22.5" kettles, 2 - 18.5" kettle, 2 - SJS, 2 - SJP, 4 - WGA, 1 vintage Coolie Pan

can't be exactly sure of the year, but to this question :

"Did the last years of the MBH have the large tab style?"

On the LID, I have a couple large tab & a couple small tab MBH's .........the bowl's are all large tab......so yes to that......

I think the change to large bowl tabs is 1975.............

From the age guide :

"1981
The 1981 kettle lost the metal handles on the side of the bowl. They were replaced with wooden handles. The wooden handles also switched from the 2-rivet handle to a single screw.'

Large bowl tabs, 1975 is pretty solid. Late '74 at the earliest. Large lid tab, 1978. The last MBH kettles were 1980 "B" code.

There's BBQK small tabbed lid vent kettles with large bowl tabs. (most likely the late '74/1975 kettles)

There's "engraved" WEBER logo'd lid vents (small tab) with large bowl tabs (1976-1977 era)

Large lid vent tab with the raised WEBER logo and large bowl tabs....no code, 1978.
