At first I was like  :o  Then I was like  >:(  And I'm still like  >:(  Tomorrow I'll probably be like  :'(

I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

Mark Schnell

This just happened to me a few weeks ago. Mine looked just like this too. Mine was so brittle that I was able to get it to snap off by prying on it with a screwdriver, it came off in pieces. I ordered a replacement vent from ereplacements.com and took the handle off that one. Pain in the butt, yeah, but all fixed now.

Did the tab bend on its own or was it bent before the melting?

Is that melted aluminium burbling out from under there?

If so, what were you cooking?

It looks like the plastic tab melted on itself. I hope you can get it off without much issue.

Holy shit!!!!

I melted the plastic rollers on my performer a few times, but that melted vent is extreme!!!

Mine melted when my wife closed the lid on two full charcoal baskets that I had been starting on my Performer. It really surprised me that it would melt like that.

The aluminum part of the tab is not actually melted. That line on the top is the tab sticking up through the melted plastic.

Heyjude

That thing got really hot!
The melted tab is fairly common on grills that see high heat.. It should be made of something like,  I dunno, Wood?!
I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..

We know a guy....  ;)
Interested in ANY offset handle SJs you may have.

Are the wood vent handles actually in work?  Sounds like he has his hands full with the other handles.  Does Weber offer the plastic handles by themselves, or is the only way to get them is with a replacement vent?

I've recently acquired two new blue lids.  One is for a OTS/G and didn't have the CoolTouch handle.  The other is for a Performer Platinum, and it had it.  I bought the first lid from Craigslist, so he may have removed it.

Mark Schnell

They don't sell the handle by itself anymore. I had to buy the whole vent with handle attached. It was 6.98 from ereplacements.com. The handle pops off fairly easily and you can put it on your old vent. I just did that and it wasn't that hard at all.

Bman - I have a spare if you need it.
