So my elderly aunt got her regular shipment from the Omaha Meat Company and, in return for helping her unpack and store everything, she gave us an 8-pack of OMC "gourmet" hot dogs. I'm sure the only thing gourmet about them is the price, but who am I to look a gift in the mouth? They sat in the refrigerator a few days, decided to go ahead and grill 'em up today....but just grill "gourmet" hot dogs? I think not.
I just happened to have a hunk of pork jowl at the house (yeah. We don't have your average ordinary house. We have stuff like pork jowl here, but I digress).
Anyway, I took the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. I sliced to jowl into bacon strips
Wrapped the gourmet dogs, fastening with tooth picks
Put 'em on the grill, indirect, over beer.
After about half hour or so I flipped them and pulled out the tooth picks. I pulled them off the grill about 10 minutes later.
I like using Kings Hawaiian Rolls for buns. I pull two, still connected, and crisp 'em a bit over the hot coals and slice down the middle. Here's my gourmet dog w/pork jowl on Kings Hawaiian with relish & sauerkraut.
