Metal wheels refurb

I recently worked on an old set of metal wheels and thought I'd post a couple of pictures. They were quite badly rusted and the rubber in really bad condition (large chunks broken out). Brian (if I recall correctly) had posted here about a product called Evapo-Rust that he found effective. After a little further online research I decided to buy a gallon. The stuff is absolutely amazing. The product will not hurt paint, but in my case the rust was under the paint and this resulted in the paint simply washing off when the rust 'dissolved'. The middle picture of the bare, clean metal wheels was taken after they sat submerged in Evapo-Rust in a plastic bag overnight. I did not brush or scrub or scrape them in any way. This is just how they emerged from the bag. I then masked off the rubber as best I could and spray-painted them black, and then masked off again to paint the whitewalls.

Okay... I've edited the original post by deleting the photos and re-inserting them. Did this make a difference?

Dale, those are awesome!  It is tough to mask and paint the white walls and you did a terrific job.

Dale those look like they came off a BNIB 60s kettle. Nice job! I need to pick up some of this.

Dale,

Did the evapo-rust have no effect on the rubber?
