Blue "E" Code Clean Up " I'm Done"
« on: July 10, 2014, 03:13:50 PM »
This isn't really a restore just a clean up.  Picked this up off CL a couple weeks ago filthy but in overall great condition.  A couple good tips I have already used.  The Razor blade set from Harbor Freight and the Cap from a small propane bottle used for the front leg cap.
This is what it looks like right now.

The sweep which is usually a rusted out PITA is rusty but works perfectly so I'm not going to mess with it.

Need advice on cleaning the Ash Pan.  Soaking for 2 days so far in water and comet but it still isn't cleaning up very good.

Will post more this weekend.  Hope to done with it on Sunday.

Looks like the thumb screw is already busted off on the sweep.

LOL you have good eyes.  Broke off yesterday.  Hit it for a week with Gunk and WD-40.  I have a brand new Sweep Assy but the old one actually works great.  Just a little rusty.

FedEx, how did your clean up go?
I had a failure with my system today... By far the worst time I had cleaning a tray.
I actual gave up and cleaned one that I am giving to a member.
I only spent 5 minutes on this one.

Here is the one I was working on for the Sequoia. This was after a few scrubs even...

After dinner, I looked at again, It was not going to win. I think i did? :o
Had to take the pic inside, it was dark out...It will be installed tomorrow.

Didn't get much done.  Changed out the sweep (even though it worked fine), Painted the triangle and Ash Sweep handle black (looks sweet and I'm sick of rust).  As far as the ash pan went I had little progress.  Mine is that old style that twists onto the legs just like yours and some what fragile.  It looked a little worse than yours did.  Got a tip that Oxyclean clean worked so I gave it a 2 day soak.  Well it didn't work that much so I'm gonna give the CLR a try this week.  I'm not really happy with the wheels (the plastic Weber insert is barely hanging on) so I'm going to do a web search for aftermarket metal wheels like use to come on the old Red Wagons.  I also need to sand and finish an old set wood handles.  I'm doing alot more on this thing then I though considering I'm probably not going to keep it.  Will probably pass it along to someone here when I'm done.

Put in new sweep.

Sprayed the handle.

Sprayed the Triangle

Improving, not giving up yet.

2 new wheels at ACE, Mgr. said he would let me have both for $4.00  Will pick up tomorrow.
