Grilling at Grandmas
« on: July 02, 2014, 11:23:50 AM »
Grandma took a bunch of storm damage last weekend and lost a bunch of oak trees 20+ inches across.   Since I was off of work I took the 3 hour drive to start breaking them down.  At 81, and with a new hip, I knew she wasn't up for slinging a chainsaw like she use to.  I remembered her having a kettle so I figured I'd do some pork loin for dinner.  I dusted off the grill and low and behold it's a classic MBH.

Dinner was good and we talked like I never have before with her.  She told me about doing 20+ Cornish hens on the grill along with many other thing.  She kicked my butt in cards all night.  At the end of the night she wanted to make sure I was leaving the leftovers with her.

The photo aren't the best but I thought I'd share anyhow.

Grandma's a grillfella! She should register here with that name, "Grandma".  Seriously, though, you're a good grandson to drive that far and cook for her as well! I hope you get lots of smoking wood out of this! Sweet old MBH, too.

Oak is great to smoke with and would make a fitting reward for doing the right thing by your Grandmother.

You Grandma sounds like a trooper.  Oaks over a house makes me nervous after what one almost did to my bros house.
That's a nice kettle.  Good for her for taking care of it.
