thanks mike. I sent an email to Weber today, so I'll wait and see what they say. I think I have 30 days to return it through Amazon,  so I have a little time to wait on Weber's response.

Tough one. I understand your grill is brand spanking new and want it to be perfect, but since the chip is on the inside, I don't think I would be able to wait a week or two for a perfect one :) I would probably just start cooking, but I'm in Arizona and don't have to worry about rust either.

I'd bet they send you a new part and you can keep your other one :)   I had 3 radiators in row arrive damaged from summit racing . Minor damage that wouldn't effect performance but I paid for brand new so I wanted brand new and Summit agreed , they just filed a damage claim with UPS and kept sending them until the 4th shipment arrived in perfect condition. UPS was suppose to come and get the damaged ones it's been 4 months now and I haven't heard a peep .

well they just emailed me today that they are shipping a new bowl. that is great customer service! and the wait won't be so bad because I'm on vacation for the next 8 days anyways. I can't wait to break this grill in.

My 3 year old Performer is fantastic; you'll love yours.  I use a hard plastic spatula to scrape the inside of the bowl after each use. I've noticed the ash cleaning system can get gunked up if I don't do a little scraping between cooks.
