Painting a Performer tank?

Anyone have any tips for painting a propane tank? My Agent X Black SS is flawless with the exception of the tank - it was left on the ground or something and the bottom ring is rusty. Presuming I can get it filled for the first time (need to check into that, but it does have an OPD valve) is there anything about the paint or prep I should consider? Thanks!

My thought is you should be able to sand it and spray some rust proof primer and spray the color you want.
Wanted: 18" Platinum any color will work
This is my Kettle there are many like it but this one is mine......

Yep, that's what I'd do.

Heyjude

I think they sell a propane tank color.. And yes its a rattle can!
If you are going for OEM, be sure to tape over your labels and such..  8)

Thanks for that link - I never would have thought Krylon had a propane tank paint. Just want the doctor ordered.

Good to know. My SS bottle could use some touch up as well.

BTW Marty.....if you find a local place to get the old quick disconnect tanks filled, please let me know. I'm thinking the True Value down by you might be a good place to start, but I haven't starting investigating yet.

Pez, I'm sure Marty has better knowledge of the situation in PA, but I get my tanks refilled at the local U-Haul.  Make sure you call first, as not all of their stores carry propane.  And good luck in finding a store with the proper quick-connect fittings and employees who aren't too persnickety about updated tanks.  ;-)

I get all my propane at that TV down the road. I'll check to see if they can fill the quick-connect type (and my new-old tank) next weekend.

If it's not real bad steel wool works fantastic on the tank as well!

I got a refill adapter from Weber for the quick disconnect tanks that allows the propane distributor to refill my tank with their system.  Works great...

It is part #61 in the schematic...

hey, mwmac, that seems like something I'd like to get, but that schematic isn't kicking out a part number for me.  Do you happen to have it so I can order one from Weber?
