I have read that the standard dome thermometer that comes with these grills is not that good.  What thermometer can you recommend to replace it with?

thanks!

Even if perfect, the temp in the dome can be 20-30 cooler than at the grate.
In addition to that, some of the Weber branded therms can be off by a bunch.
You would want to check it against a known-good therm or in boiling water to see what you have.
I just did a How-To on retro-fitting a Tel Tru therm on kettle that never had one.

Also, the Maverick ET-732, ET-733 wireless thermometer system is very popular in the BBQ community.
I just acquired a 732 on Amazon for $44 (on sale)
It's a great system.
You can monitor grate temp and internal meat temp simultaneously, from up to 300' away from the cooker.

In summary, since you already have a lid therm, determine its error (if any) and adjust for it.
If you want more temp monitoring capability, get the Maverick.

I've dealt with 5+ bezel Weber thermo. All were accurate within 10 degrees at 450.

The old stem style performer thermometer were terrible. New ones seem great.
