Wow, that's really encouraging! Keep listening to those kettle senses of yours. Does your son roll his eyes or is this just the life he's always known?

Great score Gerd, glad you got her!
Not everyone deserves to know the real you. Let them criticize who they think you are.

Big shout out to G$ for thinking of me and scoring this kettle. I've been keeping an eye out for a nice brownie and a 26". I never dreamed I would get one grill to satisfy both requirements. It will be the perfect mate for the metal "Brownie" cabinet I brought home from my Mom's.

Of course all this happens the night before I'm leaving town to chaperone my daughters senior trip to CA after which I get back for less that 24 hours and then I'm off to start my new job. This resto will take longer than my previous ones due to being out of town so much but that's ok. It will be worth it.

Great story and even better find!  Congrats.
Grey 22.5" OTS H
Copper 22.5" OTG... that's right I turned copper into gold.
Black 22.5" SS Performer

Nice rescue for sure!  Those are the same wheels I have on my red 26.   Yours should have white walls, just looks like yours have faded away.  That grill should look really nice with a little work and one of Brian's handles!

Kettle collector AND cooker!

Wow.....sweet score.  It always pays to keep your eyes peeled  8)

Great story and pick-up G$.  You have to like the off-road tires.  Original twist ash pans are hard to come by but you can still get the disc style with leg clips from ereplacementparts.

Great story and thanks for sharing.

... Now this is where I failed. ...

I disagree, and second-guessing on this aspect is unhealthy. And I don't think anyone on this forum would think $40 for that was overpriced. (Yes, I realize a "negotiation" and "value" aren't actually directly related.)

But I'll go along, if only to mention that if you'd have gone much lower he might have thought you were trying to rip him off, and anything much higher might have raised suspicions as to your intent.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch
