Propane to Natural Gas Conversion
« on: May 23, 2014, 04:50:51 AM »
My co-worker is looking for a Weber natural as grill and is finding that the they are pretty expensive.  Is there a way to convert a propane grill to a natural gas grill?

Sure, he needs a conversion kit and the willingness to perform the conversion.

In addition to changing the regulator to accomidate NG, do the burners need to be adjusted?

This is all outside of my realm. I just did a quick Google search. He probably needs a new manifold but not burners. Don't really know what  "kit" would comprise of.

Weber used to sell kits, but discontinued the practice. Most likely due to liability. Some people don't know that gas is dangerous or somehting like that..
You need the manifold or the gas valvles, the regualtor hose and any assorted hardware and gas fitting sealant made for gas. The burner tubes are the same. (At least on the old webers.)
You can find parts if know which ones you need. Weber won't sell them unless you own a gas grill with the correct serial number.
If you show us what you are working with, we might be able to help.
I see used or free natural gas grills on craigslist all the time, maybe he can find a parts donor.
It doesn't hurt to ask any of us here. Lots of closet gassers here..
Good luck with the project.

Currently on CL for 350 bucks
Their new house doesn't have a NG hook-up

I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

Found this gem for $25.  Can't beat the price, and the only issue is the ignition.

A Genesis Gold B for 25 bucks is a great score.  Odds are the ignition just needs a cleaning, but a new one is cheap enough.  The ignition "box shield" or whatever it's called typically rust out before the ignition itself gives up the ghost.  Should have SS cooking grates and flavorizer bars so a clean up should make this puppy ready for years to come.
