Thanks Craig. And I ran into an old friend and we chance to take one more picture ... When you are in the company of a legend, you gotta dress up.

BWAHAHAH! That's great.

Remind me to post my picture sometime of me and Elvis. I look just like Nixon.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Marty-
This is a great write-up.  Thanks for posting.

Do you know what the story is behind the 'Stars and Stripes' kettle?  Is that paint, or porcelain?   Way cool!
Interested in ANY offset handle SJs you may have.

Thanks Sax - the patriotic kettle is paint - I think. You can definitely feel the raised edges of the stars and stripes, and the interior is white too, but it has a dull overspray kind of finish. The exterior looks clear-coated. I presume these were a one-off batch for the dealers and restaurants. I've never seen a picture of one in action.

Awesome photos, thank you for sharing! I didn't realize how short it was until you posted the picture with you in it. Wow.
