You could also have a broken tab , that's easily fixed with a quick tact weld or even a JB weld type product

I would just take the bad one out and replace it. If you take your tube to a bike shop they will usually set them for you, they have the tool to do it right!!!

I'm talking  about the top , not the star nuts

If the tabs aren't inside the post there's nothing to stop it from leaning as the bolts work loose, I've seen it more then once it's an east fix .

If the OP tabs are on the outside , that's his or hers lean issue .

This is a great, helpful thread.

And here I was, thinking maybe it was the wall that was leaning instead.  :o

Good pics of how the top joint should be assembled.

Once they start to wear out they will lean especially if it's got a bunch of charcoal inside the holder

Brickout has had the worst rusted leaning SS i've seen. Here's his restoration:

I use anti seize on those bolts now and the ones that go into the star nuts as well. I also paint the star nuts once there installed , almost every case of rust out like that seems to start with the star nut deteriorating , not sure it either thing helps, but it can't hurt . I think if you leave you r cooker outside you should lube them periodically anyway just to avoid rust or worse .

That right there is a poster child for the Rescue/Restore aspect of this site. I especially like how it was "all tore up" and yet the owner's manual was still kept!

Looked like the after-image of a crash test dummy at the Palatine Proving Grounds. (I have a vision of lab coat-wearing Weber engineers pushing Performers all around at a high rate of speed, dodging traffic cones, over washboard surfaces, bashing them into walls ...)
