New Weber.

Have I heard that over time with use, the kettle will form a seal that will stop leaks?  Mine in only a few weeks old but already heavily used.  Will this happen on its own or will I need to tweak it?

If you can close your dampers and that will kill your fire in a half hour to 45 than it's running tight enough. Every kettle I have owned will do this even when new. A little smoke rolling out of here or there is no big deal.

If you think it's leaking more than it should, check to make sure it's round.
Measure across the bowl and lid, and give a little bear hug to get it back into shape.
But yes, cooking on 'em makes them seal up better.
If that description of checking round isn't enough, just ask we can walk you through it!
Congratulations on a new kettle and welcome!

My latest OTG score doesn't shut down after a cook. First cooker I've had do it. I'll measure it this weekend.

Are the ash sweeps tight to the bottom of the bowl?

Yesssir. First thing I checked was the sweeps. When I did Ribs on Sunday I could see the smoke leak from the lid Bowl contact. Only in one spot. From a drop? Or out of round? Not too worried about it but if it's an easy fix I'll look into it.
